5. ENERGY PLANNING SYSTEM (PLAN: 1983)
A.B.C. PULP Company
Produces pulp and wood products
Energy produce through 2 boilers
The planning period will be 30 days. During this period
energy must be produced by the three (3) energy generating
facilities, namely:
HOG boiler which burns mill byproducts like sawdust and
hog fuel(wood scraps).
RECOVERY boiler which burns the byproduct of the
pulping process called BLACK liquor.
POWER boiler which burns commercially available bunker
oil.
The energy system produces HIGH-pressure steam, LOW-pressure
steam and Electricity for the PULP mill and an adjoining
wood products sawmill.

The monthly minimum requirements for standard operation are
as follows:
HIGH-pressure steam 475. units
LOW -pressure steam 310. units
Electricity 90,000. units
The wood products sawmill requires the following from the
above figures:
LOW -pressure steam 60. units
Electricity 20,000. units

1. PLAN: The most cost effective production schedule for
all three power plants.

2. SN.2: What if the prices of bunker oil and outside-
purchased electricity went to:
bunker oil $100.00 per unit
electricity 0.30 per unit
Also consider that pollution(particulate) must be
reduced to 200 units.
